Bathinda, October 12: Yo Yo Tigers succeeded in a last-ditch effort with a fine stop and two other successful raids to tie with Royal Kings USA in the only Wave World Kabaddi League match on Sunday in Bathinda. The two teams were tied at 54-54, producing only the second tie of the Wave WKL in 51 matches.
The Royal Kings – Yo Yo Tigers clash was the second tie after the first between Khalsa Warriors and Punjab Thunder in Ludhiana five weeks ago, when they were locked 58-58.
With time running out, Yo Yo Tigers were two points behind at 51-53. But then Gursewak Singh Goldy went on a successful raid as he managed to slip back after being tested by Iqbal Singh Thiara. Immediately after Kulveer Singh Kaka of Yo Yo stopped Gurlal Singh and that tied the scores 53-53 before Manminder Singh Saran, one of the two most successful Raiders in Yo Yo squad pulled off a fine raid to give his team a slender lead at 54-53 and there was barely time for one more Raid for Royal Kings. Kamaljit, who had earlier made three successful raids for Royals in the last quarter went for the final charge and he pulled it off despite a great effort from Kulveer Singh, who had twice stopped Gurlal earlier in the session. That brought the score to 54-54 and the hooter went off, giving both teams one point each.
That brought Yo Yo Tigers’ tally to nine points with four wins and one tie, while Royals who are at the bottom of the table have five points with two wins and one tie.
Khalsa Warriors with 25 points from 12 wins and a tie are leading a big margin of 11 points over United Singhs and California Eagles, who have 14 each.
At the Hockey Stadium, Rajindra College, Yo Yo Tigers won the toss and started the game with a successful raid by Angrej Singh. A few of the raiders from either side benefitted from double touches. The defenders in Royal Kings USA squad had a good time with skipper Iqbal Singh Ruby earning two stops. For Yo Yo Kulveer Singh and Sohan Roorkee were the star defenders against the strong raids of Gurlal Singh and Bohar Singh of Royal King USA. By the end the of the quarter the teams were 13 -13.
In the second quarter Yo Yo defenders Jagdeep Kaka (3), Kulveer Singh (1), Sohan Roorkee (1) were the stars while their Raiders Gurusewak Singh (5), Manjobanjeet Singh (3) and Angrej Singh (2) also gave them good momentum. On the other hand Royal Kings had a tough time and they allowed Yo Yo to move 29-24 ahead.
The penultimate quarter saw Yo Yo keep Royal Kings USA at bay, but towards the end of the session the latter came back into their own to reduce the lead to just one point at 39-40 for Yo Yo. Stoppers Jaskaran and Harkirat Singh of Royal Kings USA were in good nick, as were stoppers Nirvail Singh, Sohan and Jagdeep Kaka for Yo Yo. The star Raiders for Yo Yo Tigers Gursewak Goldy and Satish Khatkar earned points five and two successful raid points.
Into the final session, there was a lot of excitement as Royal Kings made a great effort and moved ahead slightly only to see Yo Yo Tigers catch up right on closing time to finish the match at 54-54.
